We at Netcoverdirect (previously Travelcoverdirect) consider ourselves to be internet pioneers. In 1995/96/97 we found ourselves in the right place at the right time.

Back then, the internet (and two of its spin-offs: email and the World Wide Web) was, commercially, pretty much a Brave New Frontier.

We realised then, and it wasn't rocket science, that enabling customers to access paperless, instant insurance with immediate electronic covernotes was the way forward. We were driven by the need to provide a simple, speedy service to a client base which was just discovering how much time and hassle they could save by buying on the internet. So that was what we did. We started by developing web-sites for ex-pats, living outside the UK, to buy health and travel insurance. We developed our point and click process for a quick quote, no need to spend time entering your personal details unless you wanted to buy. Our products could be accessed from anywhere in the world where internet access was available. They were written in English so that language would not be a barrier to understanding what was covered and we provided the type of cover that UK ex pats, familiar with UK insurance products, would expect.

Over the intervening years, we have moved on to specialise in travel insurance so that, now, we provide an easy to use, instant solution to our clients' travel insurance needs.

Did we get it right? Was the faith of the forward-looking underwriters and brokers who joined us justified? We think so. The proof for us is the people we insure, the thousands of customers who return year after year. They are the ones who refer us to families and friends. They are the ones who name us as a recommended site on other comparison sites.

Netcoverdirect has thrived because of its customers, and so, because we wanted to be able to offer our customers something different, and because we know that cost can be a factor when buying travel insurance, we came up with Bare Bones insurance. With Bare Bones you can choose not to pay for cover you do not want. Traditional UK travel insurance policies package together many different elements of cover, and you pay for them all even if you consider that your circumstances do not warrant all of them. We have provided smaller packages, with different mixes of cover, which we think will more specifically target the base needs of travellers.
